Potatoes! - Yukon Gold

We harvested two plants for a potato salad.  It may have been a little early.  We will check back in a week.  These will be used in a potato salad.  We are having a sort of harvest supper cook out tomorrow, from our lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and potatoes.  The corn is still a couple of weeks away.

Beans! and Peas

Yesterday, we picked 7 lbs, and today another 2.8 lbs.  That is a lot of beans.  Next year I will stagger the plantings.  

And we had a few peas that survived (most did not come up due to the cold wet spring.  They were very juicy and tasty.

Raised bed greens

About 4 weeks ago I planted this raised bed.  We have enjoyed eating the red and green oak leaf over the past few days.

Super Chili Peppers

I got this super chili pepper plant at a local greenhouse in the beginning of June.   It's "fruit" seem to grow upwards.  I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Blueberries (minus the s)

The first ripe (non-bird acquired, savored by a human), blueberry of the season.  Many many more coming very soon.

Corn - Knee high by 4th of July

I don't know where the saying came from, but knee-high by the fourth of July is where you want your corn to  be at least in Vermont.  This the best our corn crop has ever been.   I should also mention this is also the first time we have planted corn :-)

Tomato!

This is our first tomato sitting in a a bowl of red oak and green oak leaf lettuce. The only thing that will make this a perfect salad is when the cucumbers are ready.  Just a couple more weeks...

Corn

The stalks are actually less than a foot tall, but I liked this photo.

Awesome progress

This row of potatoes is doing extremely well. They were planted in early May. They survived a couple of weeks on again off again flooding.  I think what may have saved them is tilling between rows which left the rows somewhat raised as this is a new garden bed.  This was after a 20 year pause in gardening in that location.  I feel very fortunate given that some farms just 20 miles north in Burlington Vermont faced flooding five times this spring. 

Future Expansion

More garden space for next year.  I will add lots of compost, till that under, plant a cover crop, and till that under next spring.

Tomatoes - first ones

These tomato plants were started as seeds indoors on March 5. I started them way too early. They were indoors until late May.  Next year I will do an April 1st start so they will not be so overgrown in their pots before transplanting for the last time outside.
